Suiting Up.

Earlier this week I wrote a guest post for the blog Debt Roundup, in which I discuss the origin story of Dad is Cheap. If you haven’t done so just yet, please check it out! Special thanks to Grayson at Debt Roundup for featuring me and Chenell at Bright Cents for connecting us!

I Buy Whatever I Want

I am a huge pro wrestling nerd. (Yes, I know it’s scripted but it’s still real to me dammit!). I am such a geek about it that I managed to incorporate it during my best man speech at my brother’s wedding. First, like a true wrestling heel (i.e. bad guy) I got the crowd to boo me by making fun of the local NBA team (Golden State Warriors), and then finished my speech by getting the crowd to stand up and chant “YES!” in unison like then WWE Champ Daniel Bryan. It. Was. Epic. Continue reading

Turning the Page

I recently had the awesome opportunity to write a guest post for one of my favorite personal finance sites Budgets are Sexy, in which I did a review of my favorite budgeting app YNAB. If you haven’t done so just yet, please check it out! If you’re a new reader as a result of the post, welcome! I hope you enjoy reading the random musings of this cheap dad… Continue reading

35.

I turn 35 on Christmas Eve.

I’d like to dedicate this post to all the Christmas babies. Only you truly understand hearing the phrase, “this is your birthday AND Christmas gift.” It was always tough having a birthday around this time because a lot of people aren’t available in December. I once had a birthday party when I was around 12 in which ONE person showed up. I was so tramatized from that experience that I didn’t have another party until I was 30. Continue reading

Tis the Season to Start Saving for College

With the holidays in full swing Vic has a gift idea for all parents (and/or aunts, uncles, godparents) of little ones. No, it’s nothing as cool as a Playstation 4, iPad Pro, or a Kylo Ren lightsaber. It’s something even better.

It’s the gift of a college education! Continue reading

Confessions of a Stay at Home Dad

Thanks to everyone for their comments, well wishes, and overall support from my previous post about getting laid off. An extra special thanks to Des at Half Banked for featuring my post twice on her blog. Losing your job isn’t easy, but it’s nice knowing that I’m not alone. Quite a few of you have also been laid off at one point and have shared your stories with me. Some even reached out to help me look for work which has been a pleasant, but unexpected side effect of me blogging about my experience. Continue reading

The Silver Lining of Getting Laid Off

A little over a week ago I walked into my supervisor’s office and found out that I was being laid off. Needless to say, I felt shocked, confused, and frustrated. I felt I had a lot of unfinished business that I wanted to accomplish in that position that I will never get the chance to do. Continue reading

Why I Want My Daughter to Have Less Than I Had Growing Up

When most people talk about what they want to provide for their kids they talk about giving their children what they didn’t have growing up.

I want to do the opposite. I don’t want my daughter to have as much as I had growing up. Continue reading
